A Time to Drive, and a Time to Be Driven
[edit]

When you finally have the Regalia fully repaired, you will soon find that who gets to drive can be a bit of a hassle. Below is a list of who can drive the car, and under what circumstances:

  • Getting the car back in Chapter 1, Ignis will offer Noctis a chance to test-drive the car. This will allow the player to drive manually until getting out again, at which point Ignis will insist upon driving during the day. You will only be able to direct him where to drive on the map.
  • Ignis will not drive the car at night, but after speaking with Noctis, he will allow the player to only drive at night (though it is strongly advised you drive at night sparingly).
  • When the roads to Duscae are opened in Chapter 3, Ignis will finally allow Noctis to drive manually during the day, and the player can choose to drive or let Ignis drive by giving directions.
  • Ignis will still refuse to drive at night, deferring to Noctis and advising of the dangers of night travel.
  • After reaching around level 30, Ignis will finally be comfortable with Noctis' strength and will finally accept to auto-driving at night.

It's Worth Watching The Campsite
[edit]

Keep an eye on what's happening in the background during XP award screens in camp or other times when youre friends are just staring around. Some pretty wonderful interactions and Easter Eggs take place in these situations. Also keep an eye on the background of Prompto's photographs.

Ignis Recipes[edit]

Ignis recipes are one of the game’s great collectibles. Recipes set the stage for tough fights, and the more you have, the more you can accomplish. So how do you find new recipes? They're hidden everywhere. Some are unlocked by defeating new monsters and collecting drops. Some are found in static locations in books or purchased recipes, through eating some food in restaurants, through observing people nearby eating, and through upgrading his Cooking skill. Check out our food and recipes page for some of the many dishes you can cook up.

Oracle Ascension Coins are Worth Finding
[edit]

Your Oracle Ascension Coins are a precious commodity - you'll get one as part of the main story, but many others are hiding around the world in the most unlikely places - in dungeons, stashed in the corners of outposts - and more!

They may not seem like a big deal, but eventually you'll meet a merchant later in the game that collects these coins, and will trade you for incredibly rare and powerful items.

Targeting
[edit]

Targeting in Final Fantasy XV can be a little confusing. While holding R1 allows you to lock on to a single enemy, losing your grip on the trigger in the midst of combat can throw battle into chaos. To prevent this, lock on, and while holding R1, press R3. Doing so switches you to a permanent locked mode, allowing you to switch between targets with a simple flick of the right stick. Additionally, this sets Warp Strikes to a simple tap of the Triangle button. Holding Triangle down still warps away to safety.

When To Rest[edit]

We also mention this in our Things To Do First section, but it’s so important it bears repeating. Where you sleep really matters. Campsites bolster your stats the next day if you cook a good mea, so they’re a great place to sleep before big hunts or fights. Camper RVs, motels, and hotels grant XP bonuses, so they’re great places to visit after a big battle to maximize your daily XP cash-in.

To make the most of your XP gains, go on several hunts, complete a few quests, and do everything you can around you before finding the best hotel in the area to get the biggest bonus. Campers grant 1.2 XP gains, while motels give 1.5 XP. If you can afford the 10,000 asking price, Galdin Quay's resort grants 2x the XP!

Summon the Gods (Sometimes)
[edit]

During the main story, you will begin gaining marks of certain gods who will help you in battle. However, getting them to help can be a challenge, as each deity has a chance to become available to summon depending on different battle circumstances. Some - like Ramuh and Shiva - can show up almost anywhere, whereas others - like Titan and Leviatthan - only show up in certain areas. See the Summons page to learn more about how and where you can trigger a summon.

Imperials Just Keep Coming
[edit]

Eventually you're going to trigger an event that sets gunships full of soldiers after you. These guys show up at random times, (often when you're wandering the wilderness) and they can be a real pain. As time passes, they'll call in heavier and heavier reinforcements. Sometimes it's just best to duck, cover, and run when the Imperials arrive.

Cid the Mechanical Whiz
[edit]

You may notice that certain gear - like Noctis' Engine Blade and some mechanical weapons show a + symbol. After the first Chapter, speak to Cid and you'll find that he can tinker with Upgradable Weapons - in exchange for various types of treasure ranging from metal scraps found in the wild to exotic treasure found by taking down certain beasts.

However, make sure to keep talking to him whenever you find an upgradable weapon, as they can often become viable long after other weapons stop becoming useful. For example, upgrading the Engine Blade will bring it from 28 attack to 40, and then to a whopping 207 with Engine Blade III - provided you can find the right materials. In other words, you can upgrade certain weapons more than once, something the game doesn't mention and lets you find out on your own!

Infinite Sprinting
[edit]

Noctis can sprint by holding down the attack button - which depletes an invisible stamina bar that you can turn on in the options. However there is a way to infinitely replenish the bar whenever it gets low. Right when the bar is about to empty, Let go of the sprint button and tap it again - and Noctis will glow green and boost forward - fully replenishing the bar. You can do this over and over again as long as you time it right.

New Quests and Bounties Appear Over Time
[edit]

When visiting a diner and speaking to the local tipster, you're sure to find several bounties, maybe even one that you're too low a hunter rank to take on. However, this doesn't mean that these are all the bounties that will ever be available. Often times, getting to a higher hunter rank or advancing the story to farther chapters will unlock new bounties in old locations - the same goes for side quests! Be sure to check in on people who have given you quests in the past after getting farther into the game.

The Open World Will Close
[edit]

For the first half of the game (up until the end of chapter 8) you can explore the lands of Lucis that include Leide, Duscae, and Cleigne - which offer a variety of bounties, side quests, and let you travel all over on foot, car, or chocobo.

Hi,This appears to be a new issue that the iTunes users are experiencing while trying to update to the latest version of iTunes in Windows 7. Maya r6034.

Once you reach Chapter 9, the open world is traded for a series of short and more linear areas that heavily restrict what you can do aside from the main quest. However, early into Chapter 9 you'll meet Umbra, who will allow you to travel back to the open world when staying at a rest area. You'll take all of your progression with you, and anything you gain back in the open world will come with you when you return to the main story. Traveling back may become essential by the end of the game, as monsters may become to difficult to defeat without going back to take on more side quests.
