Adafruit motor shield v2Adafruit

V1: They, from Adafruit, design for a full-featured motor shield that will be able to power many simple to medium-complexity projects. 2 connections for 5V hobby servos connected to. This motor shield supports up to 2 stepper motors. The library works identically for bi-polar and uni-polar motors. For unipolar motors: to connect up the stepper, first figure out which pins connected to which coil, and which pins are the center taps. If its a 5-wire motor then there will be 1 that is the center tap for both coils.

I have an adafruit motorshield and I want to control a 12V pololu motor that is rated at a stall current of 5A. I expect the motor to get close to (but not get to) stall status when going through a high-stress period of 4 to 5 seconds. The adafruit website states this statement below. Is there a way to handle this scenario without damaging the motorshield? Will appreciate feedback. Thanks!

  • 4 H-Bridges: TB6612 chipset provides1.2A per bridge(3A for brief 20ms peaks) with thermal shutdown protection, internal kickback protection diodes. Can run motors on 4.5VDC to 13.5VDC.
